Chicago Sports: Creating a modern-day Mount Rushmore
Creating a Chicago Sports Mount Rushmore of the modern day.
Mount Rushmore is an iconic American monument that honors four of the greatest presidents in the history of the country. George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Thomas Jefferson and Theodore Roosevelt are all iconic American citizens who helped shape the country into what it is today.
It is common for us to use Mount Rushmore as a way to honor other legends. Who is the Mount Rushmore of actors? TV Characters? Talk show hosts? Athletes? We at Da Windy City have already put together our all-time Mount Rushmore for Chicago Sports. Now, we are going to take a crack at the modern era.
There are two major rules for this list. First, only athletes. We are not looking at coaches, owners, etc. Also, players are only to be considered based on their performances from the year 2000 and on. We want to make this a modern list, not a list full of guys who did most of their damage in the 1990s.
We assembled a panel of eight voters who contributed to this post. They include; myself and Da Windy City contributors Khari Thompson, Brandon Hinrichs, Daniel Greenberg, Josh Marshall, Michael Szura, Jason Kinander and Matthew Squires.
This has been an extremely interesting era for Chicago Sports, filled with many championship teams and even more legendary players. Who was voted as the best of the best? First, let’s take a look at who just missed the cut.
