Who are the greatest athletes in the history of Chicago Sports? The staff at Da Windy City builds the Chicago Sports Mount Rushmore.

The Chicago sports scene is incredibly rich with tradition and history. From the dominant baseball teams in the early 1900s, to the legendary 85 Bears and Jordan era Bulls, to the Blackhawks dynasty of the modern era, there is so much sports history in the Windy City.

The city has many legendary teams, but even more legendary players. We are watching many future legends take the ice and field for Chicago sports teams right now. Where will their place be in the history of the city? Only time will tell for sure.

To look back and give an idea of the greatest athletes in the history of Chicago sports, we at Da Windy City decided to put together a Mount Rushmore of legendary athletes of the city. Votes were collected from seven total people. Myself and DWC contributors Khari Thompson, Josh Marshall, Jason Kinander, Daniel Greenberg, Michael Szura and Matthew Squires made up the panel.

Each voter sent in their own Mount Rushmore for all-time Chicago athletes. Each athlete selected counted for one vote. I tallied the vote and came away with the Da Windy City all-time Mount Rushmore. Luckily, we did not have any ties in the top four.

Only athletes were considered for this practice. Coaches, owners, etc. were not. George Halas, Mike Ditka (if you can count his coaching) and Phil Jackson could have all had a strong case, but we wanted to keep this to the athletes only.

Before we reveal the actual Mount Rushmore, let’s take a look at the athletes who missed the cut, but received votes.
