Blackhawks Announce Major Contract Extension
While the Chicago Blackhawks may be a young team building for the future, there are some key veterans on this roster too. And today's signing ensures we'll continue to get major contributions from one of the most crucial vets on the team.
The Chicago Blackhawks just announced a two-year contract extension with goalie Petr Mrazek through the 2025-2026 season with a $4,250,000 salary cap hit.
Petr Mrazek, a 13-year veteran has been a huge piece to this Blackhawks locker room during this rough season, while also posting a 12-17-1 record over 32 starts, a .907 save percentage ranking sixth in the NHL, and a .301 goals-against, which ranks eighth.
Mrazek's play in net has been one of the most consistent Blackhawks fans have seen since Corey Crawford. Getting this deal done should bring a glimpse of hope to the Blackhawks fans during this downtrodden season.
"Petr is a strong goaltender who continues to show the athleticism and calming style that has made him so successful in this league. He's had an immense impact within our group, and we're excited to have Petr back."
- Kyle Davidson, Blackhawks GM
This signing by the Blackhawks is a great move, clearing up the question of who will be in the net as they let their young prospects grow within their farm system, looking to build back up into the dynasty they once were. Petr brings experience at the goaltender position and is a great player to have on the roster, both on and off the ice.
