Maxx Crosby's social media activity may give the Bears a lifeline

A cryptic social media post won't force a trade, but Chicago would be wise to stay ready if the Raiders' season goes sideways.

For months, the Chicago Bears have been tied to a move for Maxx Crosby, and for obvious reasons. Few teams with Super Bowl aspirations have a more underwhelming pass-rushing unit, and Crosby is one of the best in business.

The Las Vegas Raiders traded him to the Baltimore Ravens before the move fell at the eleventh hour. And while they gladly took their superstar back, it's hard to believe they won't reconsider trading him again at some point.

That's why the fans are keeping tabs on every single thing Crosby says and does. That includes his social media activity, and his latest cryptic post on X ruffled some feathers and led to some speculation:

"STOP PEOPLE PLEASING. HANDLE BUSINESS ACCORDINGLY," he shared on X.

The Bears should keep tabs on Maxx Crosby

Of course, that doesn't necessarily mean that Crosby will be traded or that he's not happy with the team. If anything, he has said all the right things about wanting to be with the Raiders for the remainder of his career.

That said, we've seen this type of story unfold and take place way too many times in the past. Drisgruntled superstars don't suddenly ignore years of struggles; that's still there, marinating on the back of his mind.

The Raiders will be a better team this season, but it's hard to believe they will be good enough to be a contender. Crosby already burned some bridges where when the team tried to shut him down last season, so who's to say something like that won't happen again? If the Raiders are struggling before the trade deadline, won't they think about trading him again?

Granted, making a run for a player with a knee injury comes with risks, and not many pass rushers have gotten better as they've gotten older. Still, Crosby is one of the three best headhunters in the game, so he's most definitely worth the gamble.

The Bears have been either unwilling or unable to address their more-than-evident needs in the defensive line this offseason. That might be because they believe their personnel is better than it seems, or maybe they're still holding out hope that they can pull off a blockbuster deal for Crosby.

Whatever the case, these rumors and all the speculation won't go away any time soon. The Bears must keep a close eye on everything that happens at Sin City, and they shouldn't hesitate to meet the Raiders' asking price if (when) Crosby ultimately becomes available again.
