The Chicago Bears could use some help on defense. Their secondary lost multiple pieces in free agency, and there are some doubts about their current cornerback room. That's why they should be keeping an eye on the AFC South right now.
According to ESPN insider Adam Schefter, the Indianapolis Colts and CB Kenny Moore II have mutually agreed to seek a trade. And with Tyrique Stevenson offering no guarantees out wide, Chicago should probably reach out to inquire about Indianapolis' asking price.
"Sources: Colts and Kenny Moore II mutually have agreed to seek a trade and a new home for the veteran cornerback. Moore is entering the last year of his contract, and both sides feel it is time to explore a trade," Schefter wrote.
The Bears Should Make a Run at Kenny Moore II
Moore has come a long way since entering the league as an undrafted free agent in 2017. He's spent his entire career with the Colts, and he's slated to make $9.49 million in the final year of his contract. With no extension in sight, moving him makes sense. Per Over The Cap, that move would save the Colts $7 million in cap space.
The 30-year-old is coming off making 14 appearances (seven starts) last season, registering 55 total tackles (34 solo), three tackles for loss, three QB hits, 1.5 sacks, six passes defensed, two forced fumbles, and one interception. He has 21 interceptions and 68 pass defenses in his career.
Stevenson, on the other hand, hasn't been that efficient for the Bears. He even admitted that he hasn't been at his best for a couple of years now, vowing to be better in a now-viral clip of him working out.
The 25-year-old gave up 33 receptions on 57 targets for 512 yards and one touchdown last season. He gave up a whopping 190 yards after the catch and missed 10.9 percent of his tackles. The Bears won't have Kevin Byard II or Nahshon Wright to bail Stevenson out with big plays and interceptions anymore, so he'll be under a lot of pressure.
The Bears' offense is clearly ahead of schedule and more than ready to compete at the highest level, so they can't afford to have their defense hold them back again next season. There are enough doubts in Kyler Gordon and Jaylon Johnson as it is. For Chicago to add even more concerns with Stevenson makes no sense. So, if the price makes sense, they should definitely be all over Kenny Moore II.
