The Chicago Bears have no shortage of injuries at the wide receiver position, with star pass catcher Rome Odunze dealing with a foot injury and rookie Luther Burden nursing an ankle issue. Both wideouts missed Saturday's game against the Green Bay Packers, helping set up an early, sluggish offensive performance. The obvious need for pass-catching help didn't slip past one former Chicago receiver, with Allen Robinson lobbying for a roster spot.

According to 670 The Score's Mark Grote, Robinson said that he's ready if the Bears want to bring him in to help with their WR depth, citing that he does "have familiarity with Ben Johnson's offense.” It’ll only take a phone call from Ben Johnson and (WRs coach Antwaan) Randle El."

And depending on how Odunze and Burden's recoveries go, the Bears might be tempted enough to take Robinson up on his offer.

Allen Robinson Offers Bears a Helping Hand As WR Injuries Pile Up

Putting aside Saturday's results, the overall offensive performance under head coach Johnson is enticing for any aging player to join. It is a chance to chase a Super Bowl while having a chance to play a contributing role in an offense that doesn't shy away from spreading the ball around. There are Robinson's past ties to the organization as well, with the receiver spending 2018 to 2021.

Robinson also knows Johnson from the duo's time in the Motor City. The veteran playmaker spent the 2024 season with the Detroit Lions, making three catches for 30 yards in 12 games.

Robinson has sat out the 2025 season thus far, but a chance to reunite with Johnson in Chicago might be what gets him off the couch and back onto the gridiron. Even though his best days are behind him, Robinson has still more than proven himself with over 7,000 receiving yards and 43 touchdowns across 11 seasons, and that experience might be good enough to help the Bears as a WR4/5 down the stretch.

If either injury for Burden or Odunze is going to linger, it couldn't hurt for the Bears to at least have the former Chicago receiver in for a workout. Robinson could likely be signed to a practice squad deal at this stage of his career, giving the Bears flexibility to elevate an experienced backup option if further injuries strike.

Just when Robinson's career seemed over, he has an outside chance to continue in Chicago if the team's WR injuries continue to be a problem. He might not be good enough to bring the Lombardi Trophy to the Windy City single-handedly, but he might have enough left in the tank to at least aid the Bears in a supporting role when they could use the help.

That makes a late-season reunion worth exploring for general manager Ryan Poles & Co.
