The Chicago Bears still have a day to go until their regular-season opener against the Minnesota Vikings on Monday Night Football. There’s a lot of anticipation surrounding this game, as it will be Year 2 of the Caleb Williams Era under new head coach Ben Johnson.

As the Week 1 opener looms, there was a former Bears star wide receiver who was making a ton of noise on social media a couple of nights ago, as he made a plea to get back on an NFL roster.

Ex-Bears wide receiver Allen Robinson, who had a couple of good seasons in the Windy City, was openly campaigning to join the Kansas City Chiefs after seeing second-year wide receiver Xavier Worthy suffer a shoulder injury.

Robinson said on X, "No cap, chiefs I’m a free agent, I swear I could help yall". After that tweet, the veteran wide receiver posted a video of himself catching a pass with the Detroit Lions and said, "Stop playin forreal @Chiefs."

Former Bears WR Allen Robinson Desperately Wants to Sign with Chiefs

It’s not surprising to see that the veteran wide receiver wants to join the perennial contender, as he has yet to win a Super Bowl in his career and didn’t do much last season in Detroit.

The 32-year-old Robinson played in 12 games last year after joining the Lions’ practice squad. The veteran wide receiver only had a mediocre three receptions (7 targets) for 30 yards, which is a far cry from what he did in Pittsburgh in 2023 (34 receptions for 280 yards).

When Robinson was with the Bears, he had two 1,000-plus yard seasons during his four-year tenure. Robinson’s first 1,000-yard season was in 2019 (second year in Chicago), where he had 98 receptions (154 targets) for 1,147 yards and seven touchdowns. His second 1,000-yard campaign happened in 2020, where Robinson recorded 102 receptions (151 targets) for 1,250 yards and six touchdowns.

Since then, Robinson’s production has dropped over the last few years, which could play a part in why he’s unsigned during the first week of the NFL season.

Based on what he showed on film last season with the Lions, it's tough to say if the Chiefs should even kick the tires on Robinson. There are better options available, such as DJ Chark, Kendrick Bourne, Tyler Boyd, etc.

Still, one can’t fault Robinson for trying to create an opportunity for himself, as it's clear that the ex-Bears WR still has a desire to play. Whether or not any of the 32 NFL teams want him to play for them remains to be seen, though.
