Chase Claypool may be out of NFL chances after Packers decision

Green Bay’s lack of interest could signal the end of the road for the former Bears wide receiver

To say that Chase Claypool's days with the Chicago Bears were disappointing would be a massive understatement. The former second-round pick was supposed to take his game to the next level in the Windy City, but that was far from the case.

It didn't take long for the Bears to understand why the Pittsburgh Steelers willingly gave up on the Canadian wideout. He did plenty of talking and not much catching, and football didn't seem to be a priority at the time.

That's why having him back in the NFC North would've been a great chance to get back at him. However, Aaron Wilson of KPRC reports that the Green Bay Packers may not have been impressed after giving him a minicamp invite.

Chase Claypool's NFL comeback dreams may finally be over

"No immediate deal for Packers and veteran wide receiver Chase Claypool after tryout, per league source, and no plan to revisit at this time," Wilson shared on his X account.

Claypool is a perfect example of how talent and physical tools don't always translate to success. He was never mature, accountable, or humble enough to work on his flaws and his game, and he didn't seem to take his career, team, or teammates seriously.

All in all, he made a grand total of 10 appearances (5 starts) for the Bears, hauling in just 18 of 43 targets for 191 yards and one touchdown. Then, he claimed that he didn't trust the coaching staff, so the team told him to stay at home before shipping him to the Miami Dolphins in exchange for a late-round selection. Things didn't improve there in the slightest, and he hasn't played since 2023.

Claypool is still young, but being out of the league at 25 years old as a former second-round pick is quite telling. Despite being built like a tight end, being fast, incredibly athletic, and a physical mismatch, he couldn't even make the Buffalo Bills' roster after a practice squad stint in 2024. Josh Allen desperately needed weapons, and he couldn't even clear that seemingly low bar.

At the end of the day, Chase Claypool laid his own bed. It's always a shame to see talented young players waste their God-given traits. That said, this is probably for the best, as even though it would've been funny to watch him be a headache for the Packers, the prospect of him suddenly becoming good and tormenting the Bears twice a year was also a real possibility.
