Back in 2022, the Chicago Bears thought they could bring out the best in Chase Claypool and were hell-bent on getting him to the NFC North. The physical tools were enticing, and given that the Pittsburgh Steelers didn't boast the best passing game in the league, so to speak, there was evident untapped potential there.

The Bears beat the Green Bay Packers in both teams' attempt to trade for Claypool. Unfortunately, it didn't take long before that win felt like a loss, and it was the last time Claypool played meaningful snaps.

That's why Bears fans can only laugh at the thought of the Packers still being interested in his services. According to NFL insider Ari Meirov, the Packers will host Claypool, who has been out of the league since 2023, for a workout during their rookie minicamp.

The Packers Shouldn’t Fool Themselves into Signing Chase Claypool

Claypool stands at 6-foot-4 and 238 pounds, and he ran a 4.42-second 40-yard dash with a 40.5-inch vertical. He was supposed to be a physical mismatch and a dominant pass catcher at the next level, but that was never the case.

The Bears ignored all the red flags about his demeanor and immature nature because he had all the tools to be a star. Instead, he made 10 appearances (five starts) with 18 receptions on 43 targets for 191 yards and one touchdown before the Bears traded him and a seventh-round pick to the Miami Dolphins for a sixth-round selection.

Claypool never took accountability for his issues. Right or wrong, he called out the Bears for his subpar performances, stating that he didn't trust the coaching staff. Notably, he didn't do much to earn his snaps either, repeatedly going through the motions before ultimately being deactivated and told to stay home. Things didn't get much better in Miami, so maybe the Bears weren't the problem.

Fast forward to today, and perhaps he's grown up and realized that this might be his final shot to actually have a somewhat meaningful career in the NFL. Then again, given the way he's handled himself, that doesn't sound likely at all.

The Green Bay Packers lost Romeo Doubs in free agency and traded Dontayvion Wicks to the Philadelphia Eagles before the 2026 NFL Draft. Their once-stacked wide receiver corps is looking much thinner ahead of the upcoming campaign, and if they're banking on Chase Claypool of all people in the year 2026, they must be really desperate for some momentum.
