Caleb Williams has never exactly suffered from a shortage of confidence. The Chicago Bears quarterback took that swagger to another level when a conversation about three NFL legends suddenly turned toward him.
Williams appeared on Hot Ones with Sean Evans ahead of the 2026 season, eating increasingly miserable-looking wings while discussing everything from Chicago to his relationship with Ben Johnson. Then Evans put him through a quarterback exercise that produced one heck of an answer.
Caleb Williams puts himself in elite company
Evans named Randall Cunningham, Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers and asked Williams to identify something a quarterback could learn from each.
Williams described Cunningham as a quarterback with a "cannon" who could make plays with his legs. Rodgers earned praise for his creativity.
"Magician with the football," Williams said of Rodgers. "Being able to make all the throws. Arm angles, off platform, on platform."
Then came Brady.
"End the game moment killer," Williams said. "You have two minutes, a minute 30 left, you can't leave any time on the clock for him. If you do, you probably lose."
Those are three very different quarterbacks with three very different strengths. Cunningham brought rare athleticism and arm talent. Rodgers became famous for making throws from absurd platforms. Brady spent two decades making opponents regret leaving him any time at all.
Evans had one more name.
Caleb Williams.
"What can a quarterback learn from Caleb Williams?"
Williams didn't need a scouting report for that one.
"All of the above."
Well then.
The answer drew an immediate reaction from Evans, who called it "cold." It was also about as Caleb Williams as an answer could possibly get.
Bears quarterback isn't backing away from expectations
There is obviously a difference between saying Williams has characteristics reminiscent of those quarterbacks and putting his career anywhere near theirs. Williams wasn't handing himself seven Super Bowl rings or booking a trip to Canton during a chicken-wing interview.
The confidence behind the answer is still difficult to miss.
It also fits with what Williams said earlier in the interview about performing under pressure. When Evans brought up the idea that being "clutch" might be more perception than an actual trait, Williams immediately rejected it.
"I do, I do. I really do," Williams said when asked whether the clutch gene exists. "Actually, I think some people have it, some people don't."
Williams explained that he believes the trait can become stronger or weaker and described the deep breath he takes when Chicago needs a late score. His confidence in those situations comes from remembering the work he has already done and trusting himself, his teammates and his coaches.
That's a pretty good window into the quarterback the Bears have built around.
Chicago didn't draft Williams first overall because it wanted somebody afraid of enormous expectations. Bears fans have spent decades waiting for a quarterback capable of changing what the position looks like in Chicago.
Williams apparently has no problem believing he can be that guy.
Ask him what quarterbacks can take from Cunningham, Brady and Rodgers, and he'll happily provide an answer.
Ask what they can take from him?
Apparently, save yourself some time and just check every box.
