Chicago Bears fans already understand just how elite Caleb Williams is when it comes to avoiding pressure. Watching the quarterback wiggle out of trouble and create plays on the run is arguably his best skill set. This is why the question leading into his rookie year wasn't whether he had the ability, but whether or not Williams could play on schedule within a structured offense. This is a question that has clearly been answered, but without taking away the magic that makes Williams so exciting.
PFF ranked the top quarterbacks when it comes to sack percentages while under pressure. Williams ranked third, only getting sacked 9.6% of the time. Shockingly, it was Brock Purdy and Bo Nix ranking ahead of Williams, with both quarterbacks having just a tick above, all three coming in at 9%, pointing to the great escapability of Williams.
For the Bears, this has gone from a clear concern to a weapon they must continue to utilize. Chicago has the ability to see plays break down and still understand that Williams is going to give them a chance to come out of it with positive yardage. This is a huge part of why Ben Johnson has built an offense with such a wealth of speed.
Bears 2026 Offense will Clearly Benefit from Elite Caleb Williams Trait
Whether it is Luther Burden, Rome Odunze, Kalif Raymond, or Zavion Thomas, if Williams can buy time, there is enough speed to either find space or hurt the opposing defense over the top. Johnson has built his offense in a way that is going to consistently give Williams a chance to take advantage of his ability to avoid sacks.
Pressure can often work in the Bears' favor, as it clearly unlocks the absolute best version of Williams. This isn't to say that you want to see your offensive line struggle, but it points to the inevitability of it and to understanding that there is no quarterback better equipped to make the defense pay for leaving fewer pieces on the back end.
The biggest question remaining for Williams is simply seeing the quarterback play a more complete game and not needing the late-game magic he has become famous for. While it is an undeniable skill set, it is one the quarterback needs to lean on less, having the elite ability to put away games earlier, whether under pressure or dealing with a clean pocket. Regardless, there is no questioning it is an ability the Bears appreciate and will continue to marvel at heading into the 2026 season.
