There is no denying that the Chicago Bulls shouldn't be thrilled with lottery results that pushed the team fourth in a draft with four clearly exciting prospects. Chicago has zero control over which of the talents they land, making it clear that the pick should become potential trade bait. With this in mind, the Bulls have to consider a potential blockbuster that would put the team back on the map in the Eastern Conference in a way they haven't been since the prime days of Derek Rose.
It is beyond clear that the Milwaukee Bucks and Giannis Antetokounmpo are heading for divorce. It isn't a question of if, but when, for a team and player that have grown apart and appear to be on the verge of becoming messy. This gives Chicago a clear opportunity to utilize what was a frustrating pick and turn the 2026 offseason into one to be remembered. Looking at recent draft decisions and frustrations, there is no question that this group shouldn't be trusted to land a star fourth overall.
Still, it is an incredibly valued asset that teams will have interest in acquiring, giving Chicago a huge trading chip in a potential blockbuster for Giannis. Trading for the superstar changes the Bulls overnight, pushing them into clear contending mode and leaving the team a handful of pieces away from being a clear threat in the Eastern Conference.
Bulls could turn lottery frustration into a massive trade opportunity
While the Detroit Pistons and New York Knicks appear to be clear stalwarts when it comes to the top of the conference, the rest remains wide open. Acquiring Giannis gives the Bulls the chance to have the best player on the floor any given night. It doesn't matter who is standing on the other side of the court, the current Bucks star has proven at his best to be a unicorn capable of pushing a team on a deep playoff run.
Adding Giannis pushes the Bulls out of miserable mediocrity and gives the fanbase a needed win to put their arms around. For the Bucks, it is going to be far more enticing based on the inclusion of a top pick in this year's draft, as well as the fact that Chicago hasn't been relevant in some time, making it easier to ship away a franchise player, handing Giannis to a team viewed as a doormat instead of a rival.
All of this adds up to the Bulls having every reason to explore the potential move and reach out to the Bucks heading into the offseason. It is hard to imagine conversations couldn't be had with some level of seriousness based on Milwaukee's need to move on and the Bulls' clear lack of upside for what has felt far too long.
