Bulls should listen on Josh Giddey, but only at the right price

Chicago's rebuild means no one is completely untouchable, but moving a young playmaker requires a substantial return.

The Chicago Bulls are entering a new era. With a new front office and coaching staff, the slate has finally been wiped clean. That might lead to some questions and uncertainty, but it also gives the team a blank canvas to work with.

Of course, that also means there will be little to no untouchables on the roster. As things stand now, only Matas Buzelis and whoever they take with the No. 4 pick might be off the table, with even Noa Essengue potentially up for grabs at the right price.

Naturally, that has cast some doubts about Josh Giddey and his fit with this team's timeline. Considering that, the Phoenix Suns are reportedly keeping tabs on his situation, according to HoopsHype's Michael Scotto:

"Lastly, the Suns have also done some background on Chicago Bulls guard Josh Giddey, HoopsHype has learned," Scotto wrote.

The Bulls should only move Josh Giddey for the right price

Some interest in Giddey doesn't necessarily mean they have to move on from him. He's coming off averaging 17.0 points, 9.1 assists, and 8.3 rebounds per game last season, and he's seemingly found a home there after regressing in his final season with the Oklahoma City Thunder.

He's still young and could be a valuable piece going forward. Also, the Bulls don't have a starting-caliber point guard right now, so it's not like they should be in a rush to move him or shop him around the league.

That said, this team won't be a contender in the next couple of years, so they have to keep an open mind about every potential move. He certainly doesn't fit Bryson Graham's "SLAP" philosophy, and as young as he is, he might be ahead of this team's timeline.

We've seen this story over and over. A budding star outplays his rebuilding team, gets frustrated with all the losses, and becomes a distraction in the locker room all of a sudden. They can avoid this situation by parting ways with him.

Tiago Splitter must have a plan for him and for every single one of the Bulls' youngsters, and he's probably already even met with him. Still, he likely won't get the final say in roster moves, and if the Suns are willing to give up valuable draft capital to get him, so be it.

The Suns need a primary ball-handler to take those duties away from Devin Booker. They -- perhaps wrongfully -- believe that they can make a championship run, and if he's the missing piece, they might be willing to overpay for him.
