Bulls must use Tiago Splitter connection to solve glaring roster weakness

Chicago needs a long-term answer at center, and its new head coach may already have a few intriguing names in mind.

The wait is over. The Chicago Bulls finally have their new head coach, and they couldn't have chosen a better guy for the job. Tiago Splitter proved to be ready for a bigger role after leading the Portland Trail Blazers as an interim, and he was all about player development.

The former San Antonio Spurs big man is a young and bright mind who knows how to connect with his players. The Bulls are in a transition era, and it will be all about player development rather than winning now. However, he's also shown that he can win games he was supposed to lose.

So, now that the team has gotten that out of the way, it's time to focus on the roster. Splitter has ties to the Blazers, and given their current roster needs, the Bulls might want to go for their big man of the future there.

The Bulls should use Tiago Splitter to find their next big man

The Bulls lost their best rebounder when they traded Nikola Vucevic. They don't have a starting-caliber center right now, and while some argue Caleb Wilson could play that spot, he's better suited as an oversized forward.

Robert Wiliams III will be a free agent this offseason, and he could be a solid defensive-minded backup for this team. The Bulls could -- and should -- also inquire about the availabilities of Yang Hansen or Donovan Clingan.

Clingan, a former first-round pick, is an outstanding rim protector with a massive reach and wingspan, and he's the type of hard-working player who knows and embraces his role with a team-first mindset. He doesn't need scripted touches; he's just there to get stops and give his team additional possessions.

As for Yang Hansen, he's clearly a work in progress, and he barely played last season, but he's got an intriguing skill set for a modern-day big. He can pass like the best of them, has a huge body, and might be just enticing enough to roll the dice on.

The Bulls enter this offseason with plenty of cash to spare, two first-round picks, and a clean slate in the front office and the bench. That's the best position any rebuilding team can aspire to; they're a blank canvas with a myriad of resources.

Now, with Splitter making his way to the Windy City, it only makes sense that they reach out to him and ask for his insight on potential reinforcements, and that will most definitely include some guys from his previous stop.
