Chicago Bears fans are looking forward to the potential offseason wins that general manager Ryan Poles will have in store for the coming months. As fun as it'll be to see the Bears improve, though, it'll also be entertaining to see their rivals suffer some offseason losses, and that includes any obstacles that the Green Bay Packers will face.
The Packers have incredibly limited cap space, according to OverTheCap, sitting more than $1.5 million over the limit. This will make it harder for the Bears' NFC North rival to retain their pending free agents, including Romeo Doubs.
Matthew Golden and Christian Watson are already rostered, while the Packers appear to have more pressing needs at other positions. Assuming this adds up to Doubs' likely exit, Chicago fans will have something to celebrate as early as next month.
Romeo Doubs Leaving Packers Would Be a Huge Bears Win
Doubs was a thorn in the Bears' side last season, so it goes without saying that removing him from next season's equation would be more than welcome.
In the Week 16 collision between the NFC North foes, Doubs had no problem burning the Chicago secondary for a touchdown and 84 receiving yards. This was just a preview of what was to come in the NFC Wild Card Round. That's where Doubs helped the Packers jump out to a huge lead, scoring another touchdown and leading all Green Bay receivers with 124 receiving yards when the lights were at their brightest.
The Bears possibly shedding this presence from their division is a huge win and should only further their control over a hated rival. Already, Chicago has an incredible mental edge after going 2-1 against the Packers in the 2025 season, with the final win being an incredible playoff comeback and Green Bay's collapse. No question, losing Doubs helps the Bears and only furthers a mental disadvantage for a rival.
Ideally, Doubs will leave the NFC entirely and go to one of the AFC teams in need of support for their star quarterback. Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson, Justin Herbert, and Drake Maye all stand out as signal callers who could benefit from the presence of Doubs and teams that would be safely out of Chicago's range.
Regardless of his landing spot, it appears impossible that a re-signing is on the books, and this takes away another proven performer from the Packers, who, overnight, feels like the little brother after years of domination. It'd be great to see Green Bay losing another key piece after watching defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley and quarterbacks coach Sean Mannion leave town in the last month.
Doubs had his best games of the season against Chicago and appears to be one of the few Green Bay players with a mental edge in the rivalry. Fortunately, he won't be able to exploit that fact any longer if the door closes on a potential Packers return. While that would be a blow in Titletown, it'd certainly help the Bears' offseason continue in the right direction.
