The Chicago Bears are unquestionably being considered among the NFC's expected contenders. Whether it is how the schedule was made or looking at projections around the league, there is a common opinion that the Bears are going to be heavy favorites to be a part of the playoff field. With that said, there is no debating who the favorite in the conference is based on the offseason that the Los Angeles Rams have put together. Already, the franchise had a wealth of playmakers and a solid defensive core.
One that just got worlds better with the offseason additions of Trent McDuffie and a blockbuster trade for Myles Garrett. Chicago shouldn't view this group as unbeatable with their offensive talent, but there is no denying the uphill battle that this deep roster of talent presents. One that was just handed a chance to get even better with the potential return of Aaron Donald.
The retired defensive lineman worked out with the Rams this past week to get things flowing and see whether or not a return was on the table. All the signs appear to point to Donald making his return and giving the Rams a collection of talent the league has rarely seen.
Building a super team is next to impossible due to the cap and players having very short windows to make the most of their years, making top-end salaries. With this in mind, the Bears are facing a unique challenge and should have a level of frustration based on the latest update.
Bears Have Udeniable Levels of Frustration with Rams Continued Super Bowl Push
It makes sense for Los Angeles to make this push when you consider that defending MVP Matthew Stafford is an aging star. The quarterback might be at the top of his game at this moment, but it is fair to question how long is left, as retirement rumors have already been floated over the last couple of seasons.
Chicago's window for Super Bowl contention is far longer with a controllable offensive core and a head coach calling the plays, taking away concern that the team's offense could be stolen. While there should be a level of frustration with Donald's potential return, there is also no denying that the Bears are the best-positioned team to take down the heavy favorites.
Donald finished his career with 111.0 career sacks and was an undeniably impossible to stop on the inside. The idea of having to block not only a reinvigorated Donald but also Garrett leaves opposing NFC teams with little counter.
Chicago's lone hope is the greatness of Caleb Williams and an offense reliant on speed that fans can only hope is able to make the pass rush a non-factor in a potential postseason matchup.
