The Chicago Bulls should consider signing Dennis Schroeder

The first free agent Chicago should consider plucking away from Los Angeles is their starting point guard, Dennis Schroeder. This is a position the Bulls have been weaker at in recent years, even though the room has been crowded at times.

Coby White was supplanted by veteran Tomas Satoransky last year, and the team functioned a lot better after that switch. White was better off the bench as more of a spark plug type of player, with Satoransky acting as the facilitator. Still, the Bulls need an answer. They need an upgrade.

They could go after someone like Lonzo Ball, or even Derrick Rose, in free agency. Or, they could make a bigger splash and land Schroeder.

Last year was Schroeder’s only season with the Lakers and, if everything goes right, he would love to be back in Los Angeles.

Still, the Lakers could be unpredictable this summer after LeBron’s historic playoff exit. If Schroeder receives more attractive offers elsewhere, he might have to consider leaving.

Last season, Schroeder averaged a healthy 15.4 points, 5.8 assists, 3.5 rebounds and 1.1 steals per game in 61 starts. He is the right fit for the Bulls in terms of what they need. Schroeder is a better passer than a guy like White, and a better defender than any point guard the Bulls currently have.

If Chicago were to add Schroeder, that move alone could launch them into the thick of the Eastern Conference.
