Both Porter and DeMar DeRozan would have to pick up their options for next season if this trade were to materialize. Other than that, this is a simple player swap and still has the Bulls coming out clean for 2021 free agency.

DeRozan would replace Porter at his starting small forward spot in Chicago, whereas Patty Mills would take the Tomas Satoransky role, now on the bench (assuming that Coby White is the starting point guard next season).

Rudy Gay would then take Young’s forward spot on the bench and the Bulls would be looking to either promote Adam Mokoka to full-time bench player or add another off-ball guard via trade.

I think the most unrealistic part of this trade is Mills since he is a guy that San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich trusts a whole lot.

DeRozan can’t really stretch the floor, so that would take away from the spacing that Porter offers but Gay and Mills would help improve a bench squad in Chicago that was hard to watch at some points last year.

Porter in San Antonio further gives him an opportunity to be an aggressive player, as he would have to make up for DeRozan’s scoring load.

Young would probably find a way into Popovich’s circle of veteran players he holds in high regard while getting more steady playing time.

Both teams are in the lottery for the 2020 draft, so a rebuild is imminent.

This scenario would have both sides preparing to sign players in 2021, though the Spurs do not look as enticing of a destination as the Bulls.

San Antonio may have to continue falling a little bit before it is on par with the Bulls in being ready to ascend back to playoff contention.
