Chicago Bears vs. Arizona Cardinals: Five players to watch
Kevin White, Wide Receiver
I have been trying to avoid labeling Kevin White as a draft bust, and have been clinging to any positive information I hear out of training camp.
It was big news that the team has been trying to boost his confidence by replaying his old West Virginia tape to show him how good he was in college. I find that a bit concerning. If he drops a pass or runs the wrong route, are cornerbacks going to try and get in his head?
Against the Broncos, Kevin White looked invisible. After the game, I asked myself “Did Kevin White play? Was he even out there?” I honestly did not even remember seeing him on the field. Obviously, he played, and he did not record a stat.
Now, that’s not all on him, because he can’t throw himself the ball. The Glennon-led first team offense turned the ball over twice, which limited the amount of time they were on the field. So, it’s not like we saw these long sustained drives where White wasn’t doing anything.
However, this week if he is covered one on one, Glennon needs to take his shot. They need to see what they have in White. They should consider force feeding him the football. Throw him screens or shallow crosses to get him in rhythm and to give him his much-needed confidence.
The clock is ticking on Kevin White. We need to see some flashes from him in his third season, as he’s only played in 4 of 32 games in his career. Week two against the Cardinals would be a nice start.
