Mitch Trubisky is a star in the making

Mitch Trubisky was not only the star of this game, he was the star of the NFL on Thursday night. Taking over at quarterback for the Bears late in the first half, the 2017 second overall pick was absolutely incredible on Thursday night.

Trubisky completed 18-of-25 passes on the night for 166 yards and a touchdown. He did not turn the ball over and finished the game with an impressive 103.1 quarterback rating. Trubisky led the Bears on all three of their scoring drives and would have pulled off the win if not for terrible play by the Bears’ third string defense in the fourth quarter.

More from Chicago Bears

It would have been great to see Trubisky lead a game winning drive late in the game, but he was fantastic nonetheless.

The North Carolina product completed his first 10 passes and looked in control throughout the game. He showed off his impressive arm strength many times, seemingly always looking to push the ball down the field.

Trubisky is not afraid to let it rip, but he also has fantastic accuracy which was also on full display on Thursday night. Trubisky’s accuracy was obvious in this one. He placed the ball wherever he wanted with consistency and also showed impressive touch and timing on his passes.

His athleticism also really stood out on Thursday night. Trubisky is an extremely athletic quarterback who evades pressure extremely well. He is a magician in the pocket and has a knack for throwing on the run. The Bears used a lot of roll out passes with Trubisky under center and it clearly fit his skill set extremely well.

I do not want to put too much stock into one preseason game, but I was already high on Trubisky. I have always believed in his skill set but he was much better than I even could have expected in his first NFL game. Make no mistake about it, Mitch Trubisky is the real deal. With him under center, the Chicago Bears have an extremely bright future. This guy is a star in the making.
