The Chicago Bears scored a touchdown that gave them a 15-12 lead over the Washington Commanders with 24 seconds left on Sunday.

On the ensuing kickoff, Austin Ekeler returned it for 24 yards, leaving the Commanders with one timeout and 19 seconds to score. All signs pointed to the Bears stealing a victory, given how well their defense had played all day.

Unfortunately, the Bears always find a way to screw up in end-of-the-game scenarios. This time around, the Bears allowed the Commanders to complete a pass on 2nd-and-10 for 11 yards and call a timeout. Following that, the Bears basically gave the Commanders a free 13 yards on an out route to the sidelines.

That easy completion gave Jayden Daniels the opportunity to throw a Hail Mary. Hail Marys have as close to a 0% chance of being successful as any play an offense runs does. But, of course, the Bears found a way to screw it up and allow Daniels to complete a game-winning Hail Mary.

The fact this play was completed was sickening in itself, but watching how a Bears defender acted during the play was even worse. After the game, a fan video surfaced of second-year cornerback Tyrique Stevenson taunting the fans during the play.

This video shows Stevenson's lack of maturity. In no scenario should a player be taunting the fans, especially before the game has even ended.

After the game, Stevenson refused to answer questions from the media about the play. However, later, he apologized to the Chicago faithful on X/Twitter.

While Stevenson taking responsibility for his mistake is important, he should have done it with the media after the game instead of through social media. Although owning up to a mistake in front of a group of people is difficult, it would have given Stevenson more credibility with the fans.

Apologizing through social media leaves room for others to have told Stvenson he should apologize instead of doing it of his own volition. Hopefully, the apology did come from Stevenson himself, and he learned from this experience.
