5 Biggest Losers on Chicago Bears from Preseason Opener
Jedrick Wills
Wills got to play about half of the game and make a case to be the starting left tackle when the season starts. However, he did not take advantage. Wills gave up a sack and looked uncomfortable throughout the game. He might be third in the competition right now.
Braxton Jones will be back next week and is expected to get a lot of snaps at left tackle. Does that push Wills out of the race entirely?
Jordan McFadden
McFadedden is competing with rookie UDFA Caden Barnett for the last roster spot. McFadden was not awful, but the rookie looked like he belongs. If things are close, Barnett is younger and under team control longer. He also brings more upside. This was not good for McFadden if he wants to make the team.
Scotty Miller
Miller did not have an awful game as well and hauled in a 37-yard catch. However, he was outproduced by Kaden Davis, who appears to be fighting for the same role as him. Davis might bring more to the table as a return man, too. Beyond that, Maurice Alexander hauled in a touchdown, and veteran Ray Ray McCloud had a couple of catches. It is hard to see where Miller stands out in the room.
Josh Blackwell
Blackwell entered the preseason with a great chance to earn time in the slot. However, with Kyler Gordon, Cam Lewis, and Jaylon Jones all sitting out, Blackwell still found a way to be outplayed in the slot. It appears veteran Beanie Bishop is already ahead of Blackwell, and he just signed. Blackwell has special teams to fall back on, but otherwise, it is going to be hard to see him making the roster. He will not start in the slot.
Daniel Hardy
Hardy is expected to make the team due to the edge room being so thin. However, it still did not help his case that Jamree Kromah was so dominant in the preseason opener. He had a couple of sacks and forced a fumble. The top three rushers, Austin Booker, Dayo Odeyingbo, and Montez Sweat, will all make the team, but the rest of the room is up in the air.
Kromah made a strong case to pass up Hardy in the first preseason game.
