Of course Pete Crow-Armstrong won the Platinum Glove.

The least surprising award of the winter is now official. Pete Crow-Armstrong has been named the National League's Platinum Glove winner, the honor Rawling's gives the best defensive player in each league. The winners were announced Friday night at the Gold Glove ceremony in New York, chosen from the pool of Gold Glove winners through a combination of fan voting, and defensive data analytics.

New York Yankees outfielder Cody Bellinger took the American League honor.

History came with the hardware

The award comes with a layer of history. PCA is the first National League center fielder to win the platinum glove award since its creation back in 2011. Additionally, PCA becomes the first center fielder to win the award since Byron Buxton back in 2017. PCA joins Anthony Rizzo as the only Cubs who have ever taken it home.

The numbers explain why nobody argues. PCA led the majors with 26 outs above average and 23 runs prevented. He added 16 defensive runs saved, and his range graded in the 100th percentile among outfielders.

It was also not just PCA. The Cubs won the National League Team Gold Glove for the second straight year, piling up 115 outs above average as a club. Alex Bregman, the Cubs third baseman, took home his first Gold Glove.

What makes PCA's season hit so differently is that his glove was not even close to the loudest part of his game. He hit .280 with 45 home runs, 107 RBI's, and 41 stolen bases. He became only the seventh player in MLB history to achieve 40+ home runs and 40+ stolen bases in the same season.

This is the part that should have Cubs fans smiling through a long winter. PCA is only 24 years old, and he's signed with Chicago through 2032. Center field at Wrigley is handled for the next few years. It was baseball putting a label on what Cubs fans watched every night.
