The Chicago Bears have few remaining needs when you look at both sides of the ball and understand the nice mix of young and veteran talent Ryan Poles has assembled. However, if there is one remaining concern it is whether or not the Bears have enough depth at the edge rusher position. Montez Sweat is an established performer with the questions starting when you look beyond the defender. Austin Booker has been off to a solid start in training camp and there is reason to believe there will be a leap in production.
However, there is no argument against adding further depth bringing us to current free agent Joey Bosa. The veteran doesn't appear guaranteed to play in the 2026 season with retirement rumors swirling despite the defender only being 31 and clearly still offering an impact for the Buffalo Bills a year ago.
We have seen Ben Johnson in a similar situation with current Chicago backup quarterback Case Keenum. Leaning towards retirement the signal caller was talked into a return excited about the chance to work with Johnson and Caleb Williams. Now, the quarterback is entering his second season with the franchise and there hasn't been any hint that he will consider walking away.
Bears Should Consider Adding Joey Bosa as Final 2026 Piece
If Johnson could repeat this story with Bosa it would be undeniably ideal for the team's current pass rush. Bosa offered 5.0 sacks each of the past two seasons but as recently as 2021 put up double digits with 10.5 sacks for the Los Angeles Chargers. How much Bosa has left in the tank and whether or not the veteran can remain healthy are question marks that can be debated. Still, there is no denying the need in Chicago and the opportunity that it would be for Bosa to breathe life back into his career.
Johnson and Poles should at least reach out and see whether or not Bosa is at least open to hearing a pitch. The Bears are a young team that could easily be considered among the league's elite contenders. Chicago offers a chance to play meaningful football and for Bosa to help the team's young pass rushers continue to develop .
If Bosa is going to continue to play the deal makes sense for both sides and would be one the franchsie can easily afford. No question, the Bears should reach out the current free agent and see if a return for the 2026 season is possible.
