One of the best stories from Chicago Bears camp a season ago was the surprise production of Jahdae Walker and the rookie receiver making an undeniable case to be higher up the depth chart. This momentum was built upon in the regular season with Walker having two important touchdown catches that made his season incredibly memorable. Now, the pass catcher is looking to build on this and take advantage of injuries to the depth chart that have opened an undeniable chance to gain a level of camp momentum.
Walker recently spoke at Halas Hall, offering, “Just knowing what to do makes me play faster, and Year 2 has been great to me so far.” It serves as a reminder that Walker is being a bit overlooked when it comes to the current depth chart and where surprise contributions could be offered. This is no way meant to dispute the clear standing of Rome Odunze and Luther Burden atop the depth chart. However, everything after this duo is fluid, with Walker having a chance to carve out a role.
As much as the focus has been on Kalif Raymond and Zavion Thomas, there is reason to wonder if Walker could force his way into the conversation. The receiver has already proven himself capable of making plays when the game is on the line.
Bears Cannot Afford to Overlook Jahdae Walker's Year Two Potential
Scotty Miller and recent signing Ray-Ray McCloud are both wildcards as well, with the Bears having an undeniably entertaining battle at the position emerging. One that it would be obviously ideal to see Walker be able to take advantage of due to the clear potential, team control, and affordable contract that would all line up to make a breakout season from Walker ideal for Chicago.
Walker finished the 2026 season with six catches and 87 receiving yards, with the highlight being his two touchdown catches. Chicago getting a year-two leap is very much on the table based on camp performance and the building confidence of a young player. The only concern being whether or not the position will have too many depth options.
Raymond has experience working with Ben Johnson, while Thomas has understandably garnered excitement based on his speed and playmaking ability. Still, there is every reason to keep a close eye on Walker, understanding the potential impact and personal expectations that suggest Walker could have a bigger role in Chicago's offense in the 2026 season.
