The Chicago Bears 2024 season ended Sunday with a surprise upset over the Green Bay Packers. While that victory leaves fans ending the year on a slight high, the campaign was still a disaster. The Bears organization was forced to break their tradition and fire a head coach during the season.

As a result, the Bears are yet again in the market for a head coach. On Tuesday, during the Bears end of season press conference, general manager Ryan Poles was asked about the possibility of giving up draft capital and trading for a coach. Poles said, "We’ll look at all avenues to get the best coach here," according to Courtney Cronin.

Bears News: Ryan Poles Open to the Possibility of Trading for a Head Coach

About a month ago, speculation started about the Bears potentially trading for San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan. These rumors started because a select group of 49ers fans were disappointed with how their season had gone and thought the team should fire Shanahan.

Following the Bears' Week 14 loss to the 49ers, Shanahan shot down the speculation of being. Then, following the conclusion of Week 18, the York family confirmed they would be sticking with Shanahan and general manager John Lynch.

Unfortunately, that removes one of the best head coach trade targets for the Bears. That said, Poles being open to trading for a head coach might not be the best thing.

To acquire any coach, especially a great one, the Bears will need to give up ample draft capital. As it stands right now, they aren't really in a position to do that. In the upcoming draft, the Bears need all their picks so they can work on fixing their trenches.

Using one or multiple of this season's draft picks to acquire a coach would definitely set the Bears back again. Therefore, the new coach would be behind the eight ball yet again.

On the other hand, great coaches are able to work with what they've got to create competitive teams. Look at Sean Payton and the Broncos this season; no one expected them to be in the playoffs with Bo Nix as a rookie.

Ultimately, trading for a head coach has both an upside and a downside and given the Bears' history, it's likely they would see more of the downside if Poles traded for a coach.
