Released Bears Specialist Finally Finds New Home
During the early parts of the 2024 season, fans had many questions about the Chicago Bears' personnel usage. One player in particular who wasn't incorporated into the Bears' offense was fullback Khari Blasingame.
Fans figured Blasingame would be used as a lead blocker more in the run game since the Bears kept him going into the season. However, Blasingame ended up as a healthy scratch after returning from injury in Week 4. This was even more confusing since then-offensive coordinator Shane Waldron deployed backup center Doug Kramer as fullback over Blasingame.
This ultimately led to the Bears releasing Blasingame on October 25th. Luckily, Blasingame has found a new home. According to Jeff McLane, the Philadelphia Eagles have signed the 28-year-old to their practice squad.
NFL News: Eagles Sign FB Khari Blasingame
Throughout his six-year career, Blasingame has recorded 11 rushes for 32 yards and 13 catches for 99 yards. While he may not add a lot of statistical production to the Eagles, he will certainly help as a blocker.
Currently, the Eagles have the best running game in the league, led by Saquon Barkley. Adding Blasingame to that mix as a blocker will only improve their potent rushing attack.
Although Blasingame wasn't signed to the Eagles' active roster, he will most likely be called up on Sunday this week. Typically, teams sign free agents to the practice squad to get them back into shape but Blasingame won't need that as he went through a whole training camp and played in games this season.
While things didn't end well in Chicago for Blasingame, Bears fans hope he does well in his new home.
