The Chicago Bears' electric 2025 season ended in a disappointing loss to the Los Angeles Rams in the NFC Divisional Round. Fast forward nearly two months, and the Rams have found a way to give the Bears quite the gut punch this offseason.

On Wednesday, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that the Kansas City Chiefs have traded star cornerback Trent McDuffie to the Los Angeles Rams in exchange for four draft picks, including this year's 29th overall selection.

Needless to say, the Bears' road in the NFC has just gotten far tougher.

Trent McDuffie-Rams Trade Complicates Bears' NFC Path

As the Rams get tougher to beat with McDuffie joining the secondary, the Bears could lose plenty of defensive backs in the coming weeks. Nahshon Wright, Jaquan Brisker, Kevin Byard III, andJonathan Owens are just some of Chicago's DBs who will be free agents in a few days.

Los Angeles doesn't have to deal with a headache like that.

Watching the Rams improve stings even more, considering what happened between these teams in the playoffs. Sure, the Bears managed to drag the Rams to overtime and only lost by a field goal, but the gap between the teams could increase if the latter keeps finding ways to improve.

McDuffie is a star cornerback entering his prime at 25 years old, already boasting a wealth of playoff experience. He's more than proved what he can do on the gridiron, amassing 34 defended passes, three interceptions, eight forced fumbles, 5.5 sacks, and 178 solo tackles in the last four seasons. He's also a two-time All-Pro, having received first-team honors in 2023.

It is an irritating move, with the only silver lining being that the Rams aren't in the Bears' division, nor on their 2026 schedule.

Still, the Rams are a clear threat and just grew all the scarier to deal with if the teams collide again in the playoffs. It doesn't help that Los Angeles can also outspend Chicago this offseason, holding over $27.4 million in available cap space, per OverTheCap, compared to the minus-$7.4 million figure that general manager Ryan Poles is staring at.

As the Bears worry about their potential DB exits, the Rams can focus on addressing other areas in free agency. Chicago fans must hope that some blockbuster moves are on their way and that Poles & Co. will find legitimate contributors in the 2026 NFL draft.

Otherwise, the Rams could keep widening the gap, making it that much harder for the Bears to make next season's NFC Championship Game.
