The Chicago Bears were aware that Week 1's offensive explosion wasn't something that could be taken for granted. While Ben Johnson often catches heat for his cocky outlook, there is nothing about his coaching style or being prepared that suggests anything is being taken for granted. This was on display heading into Sunday's 9-3 loss to the Minnesota Vikings. Offensive coordinator Press Taylor spoke on the mindset of the offense and knowing that each week was different.
What is so frustrating about Taylor's sentiment is the fact that it perfectly predicted what was to come while talking about avoiding it. Taylor's comments were provided by Natalie Spala. It was a line that proved to be frustratingly true and left the Bears wondering now if a bleak Week 2 could be a setup for things to turn back around.

This proved to be the case as Minnesota's defense was stifling in what was a sloppy game for both sides. Not a single touchdown would be scored a week after the Bears seemingly scored every time they touched the football. One of the biggest pieces of this was the fact Williams was under constant pressure and running for his life.
So much of what the quarterback does best is just that, but it was in the extreme and could be blamed for an injury that ended the day for the star and has become the story of the week for Chicago.

Not only did the Bears fail to take any of their season-opening momentum with them, but the unit looked like a different roster completely. Williams missed a handful of plays prior to the injury and sloppy execution limited what appeared to be a lethal unit a week ago.
While there is a clear level of frustration based on the current injury situation and the ugly loss fans shouldn't panic just yet. A talented roster and savvy coaching staff still leaves reason to believe that this was the outlier. The defense of head coach Brian Flores is unquestionably creative and push Chicago's offense based on poor weather and a lack of protection.
Even in the game's final moments this was on display as Tyson Bagent didn't have enough time to attempt a final prayer to the end zone. No question. Taylor's comment proved to be a set up for what was to come, and something Chicago fans are simply hoping proves to be an ugly outlier in what was a bad weather and poor blocking game.
