Already, the Chicago Bears camp and preseason improvements are generating headlines as the franchise looks to turn the corner. While things have gone smoothly when it comes to the starting lineups, the Bears have lost valuable depth with injuries at the running back position. This has caused the franchise to look to free agency for potential depth answers. Kylin James, Dillon Johnson, and Royce Freeman were all brought in for team workouts as the franchise searches for answers.

While all of the above would be easy bargain depth, the Bears might be better served looking at a better solution. One of the surprising stories to come out of the preseason is the fact that the Washington Commanders have been shopping power back Brian Robinson. Whether it is a contract dispute or simply the franchise wanting to turn the page on last year's leading rusher is unclear. Regardless, the Bears stand out as a great potential fit.

Robinson would bring a level of physicality that would play perfectly off Swift and give Chicago an exciting backfield duo. It wouldn't just be a short-term answer of adding a depth player, but adding an offensive weapon that head coach Ben Johnson can build around.

Bears Could Become a Surprise Landing Spot for Commanders Back Brian Robinson

Aaron Wilson reported that the Bears had worked out Johnson, James, and Freeman, pointing out the need to add to the position. Taking it a step further is simply realizing the franchise shouldn't be shopping in the leftovers of free agency, but looking at real, meaningful solutions that could help the offense take that next step.

Perhaps the one counter to this is the fact that Johnson's offense best thrives when the back is a bit better of a receiver than Robinson has proven himself to be. Still, the fit is far too interesting to ignore, and the Commanders aren't likely to demand a high price at this point in the preseason. It is at least worth a call as the Bears are searching for answers.

One other option that could be explored resides in Atlanta with Tyler Allgeier's contract expiring. With the emergence of Bijan Robinson, the Bears should at least reach out and see if the Falcons would be willing to trade the second option. Regardless of where, Chicago must think bigger when it comes to solving its recent injury concerns looking at adding another weapon.
