Surprise Zach LaVine Trade Destination Rumored After Big Offseason Moves
By Cem Yolbulan
The Chicago Bulls finally decided to retool this summer. Moving on from Alex Caruso, DeMar DeRozan, and Andre Drummond, the Bulls are now focusing on the future.
The biggest move left to make for Chicago is trading Zach LaVine. The 29-year-old shooting guard doesn't fit into the Bulls' plans both on the court and in terms of the timeline.
The two-time All-Star is under contract for three more years with an annual average salary of over $40 million. Because he only played in 25 games last season and wasn't impactful when he played, it has been hard for the Bulls to find a new home for LaVine.
However, according to the latest reporting, a potential new landing spot has emerged. Joe Cowley of the Chicago Sun-Times said that the Los Angeles Clippers have been a team NBA sources have been discussing as a suitor for LaVine.
Bulls Rumors: Clippers Emerge As Potential Landing Spot for Zach LaVine
This is understandable for the Clippers. They lost Paul George in free agency and need another high-level offensive engine to keep up in the loaded Western Conference. The James Harden-Kawhi Leonard duo is not dynamic enough at this stage of their careers to make them true contenders.
Harden-LaVine backcourt duo obviously raises defensive concerns but they would try to make up for it with their offensive production.
The Clippers would almost certainly have to send Norman Powell, Terance Mann, and PJ Tucker to match salaries in this trade scenario. The Bulls would ideally ask for some draft capital as well, but considering how difficult it has been to move LaVine, they should be fine with this return.
