Star Playmaker Suffers Injury Scare at Bears Practice on Wednesday
By Jovan Alford
Chicago Bears fans took a huge sigh of relief on Wednesday after seeing one of their star wide receivers get banged up at Wednesday’s training camp practice.
Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune reported that veteran wideout D.J. Moore was limping after a play and was getting his right ankle/foot looked at. However, Biggs said shortly after that Moore returned to action.
Chicago has done a good job of avoiding serious injuries in training camp thus far as many analysts and fans expect the team to make a huge leap in 2024.
Nevertheless, the Bears can ill-afford to lose Moore or any of their top receivers if they want to compete for the NFC North crown this season with a rookie quarterback. Moore was signed to a massive four-year contract extension earlier this month after an impressive first season with the Bears.
The former Carolina Panthers wide receiver produced 96 receptions (136 targets) for 1,364 yards, and eight touchdowns last year in the Windy City. Fans shouldn’t expect Moore to have close to 100 receptions for almost 1,400 yards this season as the Bears added rookie Rome Odunze in the 2024 NFL Draft and Keenan Allen via trade.
However, if rookie quarterback Caleb Williams lives up to the hype and high expectations set in front of him, Moore could turn in another 1,000-yard receiving season. He’s not the route runner that Allen is, but Moore can stretch the field and make explosive plays in the passing game.
