There has been hype around the Chicago Bears since they drafted Caleb Williams with the No.1 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. Willams deserves the hype because he is one of the most talented quarterbacks the Bears have ever had. However, the city of Chicago has seen talented quarterbacks in the past, but the team has failed to develop them.

With the franchise's failure to properly develop a starting quarterback, having a good quarterback room has been challenging. This has made it difficult for the Bears to be successful if their starter gets hurt.

Fifth-year tight end Cole Kmet is all too familiar with these struggles, having been with the team during the end of the Mitchell Trubisky era and throughout the Justin Fields era in Chicago.

In the most recent episode of his new podcast, The 85 with Cole Kmet, Kmet provided his insight into the Bears' 2024 quarterback room during a conversation with undrafted free agent quarterback Austin Reed.

"Shoot for me, I think this is the best, you know from one to four quarterback room I've been a part of since I've been in the league."

Throughout his time in Chicago, Kmet has played with ten different starting quarterbacks, including Mitchell Trubisky, Nick Foles, Tyler Bray, Andy Dalton, Justin Fields, Trevor Siemian, Nathan Peterman, Tim Boyle, and Tyson Bagent.

The two most accomplished players on that quarterback list are Dalton and Foles, who were both on the Bears during the 2021 season. However, looking back at reports about that quarterback room it was dysfunctional.

Heading into this season, Williams is the starter, and then it looks like Bagent will be the backup. Meanwhile, Brett Rypien will be the third string, and Reed will be on the practice squad. If Williams were to sustain an injury during the season, the Bears have two capable backups in Bagent and Rypien, who have looked good in the preseason.

Hopefully, Williams stays healthy, so the Bears don't have to worry about playing a backup quarterback.

Either way, Kmet's assessment of the Bears quarterback room being the best it's been since entering the league seems to be spot on.
