5. Leonard Floyd , LB/DE - 2016

1st Round, 9th Overall

Entering the 2016 draft, Leonard Floyd was a highly touted prospect because of his athleticism. Floyd ran a 4.60-second forty-yard dash and had other impressive measurables at the NFL combine. His steeler performance at the combine, paired with the upside the Bears saw in him, caused the team to trade up from No.11 to No.9 to draft Floyd.

As a rookie, Floyd was thrust into a starting position and played 12 out of 16 games because of injuries. In 12 starts, Floyd gathered 33 combined tackles, seven sacks, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, and one touchdown. Getting that type of production out of Floyd as a rookie is what the Bears had hoped for.

Floyd's second NFL season didn't go as planned, though, as he only ended up playing ten games because of injuries. In those ten games, Floyd had 34 combined tackles and 4.5 sacks. That is one giant step back in production and a big reason why the Bears brought in Khalil Mack in 2018 to help the pass rush.

Adding Mack helped Floyd have a bit of a bounce-back season, but still not up to par for a No.9 overall pick. Floyd finished the 2018 season with 47 combined, four sacks, one fumble recovery, and one interception that went for a touchdown. Many were expecting more from Floyd with the addition of Mack.

2019 was Floyd's worst season as a Bear, only gathering 40 combined tackles and three sacks. Floyd's big dip in production made the Bears decision to cut him pretty clear. Floyd has gone on to have a pretty successful career after leaving Chicago, gathering nine or more sacks in the last four seasons. While Floyd's failure to succeed in Chicago may not be all his fault looking back on the pick it looks bad.
