Week 2: Chicago Bears @ Houston Texans

Sunday, September 15

The Chicago Bears take on C.J. Stroud and the Houston Texans in Williams' first primetime game. Stroud had an impressive rookie season, finishing the year with a 63.9 completion percentage, 4,108 passing yards, 21 touchdowns, and five interceptions in 15 games. Stroud's outstanding performance in 2023 earned him the Rookie of the Year award and helped lead the Texans to a playoff berth.

Last season, Stroud elevated receivers Tank Dell and Nico Collins into household names at the position. This offseason, the Texans added wide receiver Stefon Diggs and running back Joe Mixon through trades. Making their offense even more dangerous than it was last season, which is a scary proposition.

Defensively, the Texans have added several new pieces. The most notable addition is Danielle Hunter, who signed in free agency to replace Jonathan Greenard. They also added two linebacker corps with Azeez Al-Shaair and Jake Hansen and brought in Kamari Lassiter to replace cornerback Steven Nelson.

On paper, the Bears’ offense and defense provide the Texans with a pretty even matchup. Defensively, the Bears’ back seven is equipped to handle the Texans' high-powered offense. While the Bears’ skill position players have a slight edge over the Texans' defense.

The real X-factor in this game comes down to quarterback play. Everyone expects Stroud to continue ascending after his strong rookie season. In contrast, this will be only Williams' second NFL game, so things might look shaky. Given the circumstances, the Texans should come out on top in this one, but it will be close.

Prediction: Texans 27-24
