The Chicago Bears made many additions to their offense this offseason in order to help rookie quarterback Caleb Williams succeed. Among those additions was signing veteran running back D'Andre Swift to a three-year $24 million deal.

Swift is coming off a career year with the Eagles, where he rushed for 1,049 yards and five touchdowns. While also catching 39 passes for 214 yards and one touchdown. Although Swift's receiving totals were the lowest in his career last season, his effectiveness on the ground made up for that.

Despite Swift's versatility and success last season, people were split 50/50 on whether the signing was a good move. This uncertainty stems from the fact that Swift's only year of sustained success was last season behind one of the best offensive lines in football.

Many fear that Swift will regress this season and look more like he did when he played in Detroit behind an average offensive line. This concern is highlighted by David Kenyon in a recent Bleacher Report article that lists one potential bust candidate for each team in the 2024 season.

Bears News: Bleacher Report lists D'Andre Swift as a bust candidate for the Chicago Bears in 2024

Kenyon's reasoning for why Swift may be a bust in the 2024 season hinges on two factors: the offensive line and the wide receiving core being the strength of the team. As mentioned above, the Bears' offensive line is nowhere close to as strong as the Eagles' offensive line was last season.

In fact, several Bears linemen face questions entering the season, which can often signal potential issues. Despite this, the Bears believe their offensive line will be strong enough this season.

Kenyon also believes that Swift might be a bust this season due to the strength of the Bears wide receiving corps. Last season. Eagles wide receivers A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith both had over 1,000 receiving yards, and tight end Dallas Goedert had 592 receiving yards. While the Bears certainly have a lot more mouths to feed in the receiving game than the Eagles did last season, Swift should still get plenty of chances to make plays.

Even if Swift does end up being less effective on the ground this season for the Bears, Kenyon doesn't specify what a bust season from Swift would look like. Many fans would be happy if Swift rushed for 800-900 yards this season and ended the year with an average of 4.0-4.5 yards a carry. as long as Caleb Williams looks good. However, if Swift where to have a worse season then that then he would be classified as a bust for the season.
