The Chicago Bears made a sneaky move in free agency, signing former Green Bay Packers safety Jonathan Owens to a two-year, $4.7 million. The decision to sign Owens bolstered the Bears’ secondary while weakening Green Bay’s pass defense.

Last season, Owens shined in his lone season with the Packers, posting 84 combined tackles, three pass deflections, two tackles for loss, a sack, and a defensive touchdown. Chicago hopes the 29-year-old safety can have a similar impact in 2024.

Owens missed the early portions of training camp as he was at the Summer Olympics in Paris, France, to watch his wife, Simone Biles, compete in gymnastics. The former Packers safety is at training camp with the Bears, and a fan asked Owens after practice if he misses Green Bay.

The 29-year-old defensive back did not mince his words and responded, “Absolutely not.” As you can imagine, the Bears fans loved Owens’ response as he endeared himself to the Windy City faithful.

At the same time, you can only imagine how Packers fans will feel about those comments as they can say if Owens didn’t have a good season in Green Bay, he wouldn’t have landed a two-year deal with Chicago.

But Owens will likely not worry about how Packers fans feel about those comments as he’s trying to help the Bears defeat Green Bay this season and compete for a division crown. The first time the Bears and Packers will play each other will be in Week 11 at Soldier Field.
