As the NFL preseason is in full swing, teams around the league are putting their final touches on their rosters before deciding on their 53-man group for the season. A day doesn't go by without a flurry of moves, some of which naturally include former Bears players.

On Tuesday, the Buffalo Bills placed the recently acquired Chase Claypool on injured reserve and signed two wide receivers as his replacement, according to Adam Schefter.

Former Bears WR Chase Claypool Out for the Season

Bears fans probably don't want to hear the name Chase Claypool ever again but this latest update puts the once-promising receiver's career in jeopardy.

The 26-year-old playmaker had already missed most of training camp and the preseason with a turf toe injury. Being designated on the injured reserve in preseason means Claypool is out for the season.

Missing an entire season after signing with his fourth team since 2022 is not a good sign for Claypool's NFL prospects.

This is a rapid decline from where the former Notre Dame star was to begin his career. Claypool was one of the best offensive rookies in 2020, registering 62 catches, 873 yards, and nine touchdowns. Discipline and effort issues prevented him from replicating that production in his rookie season.

In the middle of his third season in the league, Claypool was traded to the Bears for a second-round pick. However, his Bears' career never took off.

Claypool was intensely criticized for his lack of effort and off-field issues until the team asked him to stay home. He was eventually traded to the Miami Dolphins but never got his career back on track.

Nonetheless, it remains to be seen where Claypool's career takes him next. But it is becoming close to impossible for him to fulfill his promise in the NFL.
