Chase Claypool Could End Up Back in NFC After Bears Exit
By Jovan Alford
Former Chicago Bears wide receiver Chase Claypool is still looking for his next opportunity after being traded by the Bears to the Miami Dolphins in the middle of last season. Claypool didn’t do much with the Dolphins last season, recording four receptions (seven targets) for 26 yards.
The former second-round pick has gone from potential Pro Bowl receiver to possibly playing in the CFL, as he was reportedly added to the Saskatchewan Roughriders’ negotiation list. The former Notre Dame standout has struggled to make plays with the Dolphins and Bears, but it hasn’t stopped one team from bringing him in for a visit.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported Tuesday that the Seattle Seahawks brought Claypool in for a visit. The Seahawks don’t necessarily need a wide receiver as they are stacked with DK Metcalf, Tyler Lockett, Jaxon Smith-Njigba, and Jake Bobo.
With how things have gone for Claypool over the last couple of seasons, he might be fighting to make an NFL roster. Claypool’s Chicago tenure only lasted 10 games and it wasn’t great as he had 18 receptions (43 targets) for 191 yards and a touchdown.
The Bears thought they found a potential WR2 to pair with Darnell Mooney in 2022, but Claypool didn’t live up to the minimal expectations set for him after he had back-to-back 800-plus yard seasons to his career with the Steelers.
Nonetheless, it will be interesting to see where Claypool will be playing football this year as it’s clear that many NFL teams are passing on the former second-round pick. It also doesn’t help that other wide receivers such as Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Tyler Boyd, DJ Chark, and Odell Beckham Jr. look for new opportunities.
