Even Madden Thinks Justin Fields Should Change Positions
It's been an eventful couple of months for Justin Fields. After being the 11th overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft by the Chicago Bears, many believed Chicago found their next franchise quarterback.
Despite all the hype, nothing ever materialized in the Windy City. Fields went 10-28 as a starter, notching just 6,674 passing yards with a 40-30 touchdown/interception ratio.
That led to him being traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers back in March, as the Bears handed over the keys to Caleb Williams.
Now Fields is expected to battle Russell Wilson for the starting quarterback position but the former Ohio State product has a tough hill to climb.
Even EA Sports' Madden had Fields playing an unconventional position.
They Had Justin Fields Returning Kicks In Madden
EA Sports released their trailer for Madden 25 on June 20 and they had Fields returning kickoffs.
This certainly got fans talking about it, as it was rather surprising to see the video game put him back there.
This offseason, the NFL changed their kickoff rules, which now gives returners a head start. No players other than the kicker and the returners can move until the ball is fielded by a returner. This now gives teams a chance to put electric playmakers back there.
Jaylen Warren was a guest on Cam Hayward's podcast called "NotJustFootball" and added their special teams coordinator talked about putting Fields back there.
Fields is easily one of the most dynamic and athletic players at his position. In his career, the 25-year-old recorded 2,220 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns. In addition, he ran a 4.44-second 40-yard dash, which is the fourth-quickest behind quarterbacks Michael Vick (4.33), Reggie McBeal (4.40), and Robert Griffin III (4.41).
No one really knows if Fields will be back there returning kicks for the Steelers but it's something that has crossed their mind. And Madden picked up on it as well.
