Caleb Williams Commits Same Error Again on Day 2 of Minicamp
The Chicago Bears roll into the 2024 campaign with so many new additions to the roster. Keenan Allen, D'Andre Swift, Gerald Everett, Kevin Byard and Rome Odunze are a few major ones.
We can't forget about the biggest move made. Justin Fields out. Caleb Williams in. The Bears selected Williams out of USC with the first overall pick and made him their next franchise quarterback.
Chicago opens up the season at home against the Tennessee Titans on Sept. 8. That gives Williams four months to get valuable reps in before the games become official.
Especially since Williams just made the same mistake in practice for the second straight day.
Bears News: Matt Eberflus Believes Caleb Williams Made the Same Mistake for the Second Consecutive Day
The Bears have mandatory minicamps running from June 4-6, which allows them to have the entire team in the facility.
These reps and practices are critical for rookies, especially Williams since he's the quarterback. Head coach Matt Eberflus spoke with reporters after practice and discussed what he saw. The 54-year-old was talking about an interception that Williams threw in practice and he believes he took an extra hitch and threw the ball late over the middle of the field, leading to an interception.
He reportedly did the same thing in the June 4 practice that also led to a turnover.
The 22-year-old is learning each and every day out there. Williams is used to being the most talented player on the football field but that isn't the case in the NFL. Another thing that makes the NFL so much different than the college game is the football IQ.
Williams may have made these throws in college cause he owns a rocket of an arm and may have deceived some defenders with eyes but that doesn't work in the league. If you hesitate, the window is likely gone.
That has been happening with Williams over the last two days, leading to interceptions. Hopefully, he watches the tape and learns from these mistakes before they become a habit during the regular season.
