Bulls Add Veteran Shooter in Latest Trade Proposal
By Cem Yolbulan
The Chicago Bulls finally kickstarted their long overdue rebuild this offseason. They moved on from DeMar DeRozan, Alex Caruso, and Andre Drummond as they attempt to construct a younger, more future-focused team. GM Arturas Karnisovas still needs to find deals for Zach LaVine and Nikola Vucevic to embrace the rebuild and bottom out fully.
While finding new homes for LaVine and Vucevic may be difficult due to their contracts, the Bulls can still make other deals that align with their vision.
Dan Favale of The Bleacher Report has a trade proposal that does that. In this mock deal, the Bulls trade veterans Jevon Carter and Torrey Craig to the Milwaukee Bucks for Pat Connaughton.
Chicago Bulls Receive: Pat Connaughton
Milwaukee Bucks Receive: Jevon Carter, Torrey Craig
This is not the blockbuster trade Bulls fans are probably hoping for. This seems more like reshuffling the deck as you send two veterans to get another in return. This is not a home run deal for Chicago by any means as Connaughton is owed a total of $18.8 million for the next two years and he has been showing signs of decline.
At the same time, this deal makes on-court sense for the Bulls. There is an embarrassment of riches in Chicago's backcourt with the addition of Josh Giddey, the rise of Coby White, the emergence of Ayo Dosunmu, and the return of Lonzo Ball. Jevon Carter has no path to playing time in that crowded guard rotation.
The wing rotation, however, is not deep. Chris Duarte, Patrick Williams, and rookie Matas Buzelis are the only rotation-level forwards on the roster. Adding Connaughton there will give the Bulls a competent veteran who can space the floor for the rest of the team. The 31-year-old small forward will make the Bulls a more balanced team, which should do wonders for the development of the young players.
