Bill Belichick Already Hating on Caleb Williams Before He Takes an NFL Snap
The Chicago Bears and their fanbase's excitement is through the roof. They made some great additions this offseason, headlined by Caleb Williams.
The Bears open things up against the Tennessee Titans on Sept. 8 at Noon CT to start the 2024 season. This will be Williams' first game playing in front of the Bears faithful but former Patriots head coach Bill Belichick is already hating on the young signal caller.
Bears News: Bill Belichick Wasn’t Too Impressed by Caleb Williams
Belichick was a guest on "InsidetheNFL" with Ryan Clark, Chris Long, and Chad Johnson. They were discussing Williams' performance in the preseason and the 72-year-old didn't seem excited.
"Well, he wasn’t accurate, he was 10-for-20. There were a couple of highlight plays, but they weren’t that good."
- Bill Belichick
There needs to be some context. Two of those passes were dropped and a third was ruled incomplete when Rome Odunze caught a touchdown but was standing out of bounds. If those three passes were caught, he would have a 65% completion percentage.
But regardless, the USC product only suited up in two preseason games and went 10-of-20 for 170 passing yards. He also ran for 20 yards and one touchdown.
He flashed a lot in those two outings and will consistently improve as the year goes on. In addition, it's funny that Belichick wasn't impressed by Williams but is the same guy who took Mac Jones in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft.
The 22-year-old is light years ahead of Jones so hearing this come from Belichick is certainly funny. This is something that Williams will see or be asked about eventually. The next step is how he handles it, which I think he'll do very well.
