Bears Sign Undrafted QB for Second Straight Year
The Chicago Bears were talked about for months leading up to the NFL Draft due to them having two top-nine selections.
The Bears ended up picking five total players in the 2024 NFL Draft, headlined by QB Caleb Williams and WR Rome Odunze.
As the three-day event officially wrapped up on Saturday evening, teams began to gauge the UDFA market and the Bears quickly snagged another undrafted signal caller for the second straight season.
Bears News: Chicago Signed QB Austin Reed As An Undrafted Free Agent
Moments after the draft, NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reported that the Bears are signing Western Kentucky quarterback Austin Reed.
In 2023, Chicago snagged Tyson Bagent as an undrafted free agent and did the same thing for the second year in a row.
With Williams taking over as QB1, Reed will have the opportunity to compete to become the QB2 in the Windy City. Reed is an extremely smart and sharp decision-maker under center.
The Florida native is accurate when his feet are set and when he's throwing on the move.
During his two years at Western Kentucky, he ran an RPO scheme that allowed him to air the ball out. Reed completed 63% of his passes for 8,086 passing yards with 71 passing touchdowns and 22 interceptions as a member of the Hilltoppers.
Even though Williams is the franchise's new face, Reed will have the chance to carve out a role during mini-camp and training camp over the next few months. He's already showcased the ability to spread the ball around and get it into the hands of his playmakers.
