Bears Poach Former Packers WR After Roster Cuts
The Chicago Bears have been locked in this summer as they prepare for a highly anticipated 2024 season.
This week they had to trim down the roster to 53 men but that doesn't mean they are done adding to the team. Countless players were released around the league and that opened the opportunity for guys to find new homes.
The Chicago Bears tapped into the open market and decided to poach a former Green Bay Packer receiver on Thursday.
Bears News: Samori Toure Added to Bears Practice Squad
According to Scott Bair, the Bears added wide receiver Samori Toure to the practice squad, along with three other players.
Toure was selected in the seventh round of the 2022 NFL Draft by the Green Bay Packers and spent the past two seasons with them.
In 22 games with the Packers, the Nebraska product tallied 13 receptions (28 targets) for 160 yards, and one touchdown. He will have his work cut out for him to make the 53-man roster due to the talent in the wide receiver room.
Chicago currently has Keenan Allen, DeAndre Carter, Velus Jones Jr., DJ Moore, Rome Odunze, and Tyler Scott on the active roster. So Toure needs to impress the staff in practice to solidify his spot but this is a step in the right direction.
Management clearly liked what they saw from Toure on tape and wanted to bring him in. During the 2024 preseason, the 26-year-old finished with five receptions for 53 yards and 10.6 yards per reception.
Adding a playmaker from a division foe will always catch the attention of the fanbase and this move is the just the latest example of that.
