The Chicago Bears have been heavily discussed throughout the offseason. Most of it had to do with the team having first overall selection in the 2024 NFL Draft.

With that selection, Chicago picked QB Caleb Williams from USC. The Bears still made four more picks in the draft, with two of those players expected to step into roles in 2024.

Chicago's 2024 draft class included WR Rome Odunze, OT Kiran Amegadjie, P Tory Taylor, and DE Austin Booker. One of these guys quickly snatched the starting job from someone on the roster.

Bears News: Chicago Have Parted Ways With Starting Punter

According to Field Yates, the Bears waived punter Trenton Gill. This move comes after Chicago selected Taylor with the No. 122 overall pick.

In 2023, Gill played in all 17 games for the Bears, logging 67 punts with an average of 46.1 yards per punt. He was tied for 27th with 18 punts downed inside the 20.

They upgraded the position by snagging Taylor, who won the 2023 Ray Guy Award as a senior. He set the Iowa and NCAA single-season record for punting yards with 4,479 yards (93 punts, 48.2 average). Thirty-two of his 93 punts landed inside the 20.

Ironically, Taylor was the first punter taken by the Bears in the draft since Gill was selected in the seventh round of the 2022 NFL Draft.

Caleb Williams made a joke that Taylor won't be punting much in the Windy City. Luckily for them, he was the best one in the nation and has the tools needed to be effective in the league.
