Bears Catch Another Big Injury Break Ahead of Week 3
By Cem Yolbulan
The Chicago Bears are getting ready for a Week 3 matchup against the winless Indianapolis Colts. Caleb Williams and the Bears offense have struggled immensely so far and they will have an excellent shot to bounce back against the Colts.
Fortunately for the Bears, they may face an even more favorable opponent than they initially anticipated.
The Colts placed All-Pro defensive tackle DeForest Buckner and talented second-year cornerback JuJu Brents on injured reserve earlier in the week. Defensive end Samson Ebukam, who had a career-high 9.5 sacks last year suffered an Achilles injury before the season and is likely to miss the entire campaign.
The latest injury update from the Colts' practice makes matters even worse for Indianapolis. Their 2024 first-round pick Laiatu Latu missed Thursday's practice, per The Athletic's James Boyd. The No. 15 overall selection out of UCLA was the first defender selected in this year's draft. The defensive end's availability for Sunday is now in serious jeopardy.
NFL News: Injuries Pile up for Colts Ahead of Week 3 Matchup vs. Bears
As unfortunate as this is for Colts fans, this makes Caleb Williams' job that much easier. The Bears' offensive line looked especially shaky through two games, with Williams taking nine sacks. The No. 1 overall pick has yet to score a touchdown and the pressure is mounting on the rookie.
Facing a depleted Colts' defensive line will be an excellent opportunity for Williams to get back on track. He is less likely to face as much pressure against the Colts and minimize his mistakes.
Despite these injuries, the Bears are still slight underdogs on the road on FanDuel Sportsbook. The Bears have +102 odds to win outright as opposed to the Colts' -120.
