The Colts will be without their best defensive lineman for Sunday's game, which is great news for a struggling Bears offense.

The Chicago Bears’ offense has gotten off to a rough start through the first two weeks of the 2024 season. The Bears are ranked 18th in scoring (18.5 points), 28th in rushing (77.5 yards), and 32nd in passing (99 yards per game).

It’s not the start Bears fans hoped to see from rookie quarterback Caleb Williams and the rest of the offense. However, Williams and the offense might’ve received a big break heading into their Week 3 matchup against the Indianapolis Colts.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Colts placed star defensive tackle DeForest Buckner on injured reserve Tuesday, sidelining him for the next four weeks. Buckner suffered an ankle sprain in the Colts’ Week 2 loss to the Green Bay Packers.

The Packers’ offense didn’t do much in the passing game against the Colts’ defense but they dominated them on the ground as Josh Jacobs ran for 151 yards on 32 carries.

Therefore, should Bears fans expect D’Andre Swift to have a breakout game and for the offense to look better than they did in Weeks 1 and 2?

Yes and no. Fans should not expect 151 yards from Swift. But if he can be successful on the ground, it should open up the passing game for Williams and Co.

There’s no reason why the Bears aren’t averaging 24-26 points per game with their weapons at the skill positions. However, Chicago’s offensive line must do a better job of protecting Williams, who was sacked seven times last week by the Texans.

The good news for the Bears’ offensive line is that they won’t have to worry about Buckner, who had 1.5 sacks, a tackle for loss, and seven total tackles through the first two weeks.

Despite this latest news about Buckner, Chicago is still a one-point road underdog on DraftKings Sportsbook. If Williams and Co. can’t take advantage of this opportunity, it could get scary in the Windy City.
