Bears 53-Man Roster Prediction Ahead of 2024 Training Camp
By Randy Gurzi
The Chicago Bears are ready to usher in a new era. Again.
This time, however, it feels as though they’re getting things right. They landed Caleb Williams with the first overall pick but he’s not being thrown to the wolves with no weapons — which was the case for Mitchell Trubisky and Justin Fields.
Not only does Williams have another top-10 pick in Rome Odunze but the Bears also have Keenan Allen, D.J. Moore, Cole Kmet, and D’Andre Swift. Throw in a defense led by Montez Sweat and they could make some noise in the NFC North.
Before getting too far ahead of ourselves though, we first need to see how their initial roster will look. That’s what we aim to do with this pre-training camp 53-man roster prediction.
Quarterback (2): Caleb Williams, Tyson Bagent
Caleb Williams is the unquestioned starter and will take the reins from day one. The only real decision at quarterback is if they want a veteran behind him or if they’re comfortable with Tyson Bagent.
Considering they have just Brett Rypien on the roster as their veteran, it’s likely they believe in Bagent. That allows them to go two deep under center with a third guy on the practice squad rather than the 53-man roster.
Running Back (4): D’Andre Swift, Khalil Herbert, Roschon Johnson, Khari Blasingame
After signing David Montgomery away from the Bears, the Detroit Lions decided to trade D’Andre Swift to the Philadelphia Eagles. He recorded his first 1,000-yard campaign and is back in the NFC North as the lead back for Chicago.
He’s a solid runner but his skill as a receiver will do wonders for Williams as he develops. Khalil Herbert is better suited as a No. 2 back and returns in this role — for now. Roschon Johnson can push him and if a team is desperate enough, they might throw a pick at Chicago for Herbert. Khari Blasingame rounds out the group as a fullback with a lot to offer.
