7 Bears Playing for Their Jobs in the Hall of Fame Game
The Chicago Bears will finally play a football game again on Thursday, as the team participates in the annual Hall of Fame Game versus the Houston Texans.
Now, since this contest is so early in the preseason, fans rarely see big names in action -- and Chicago has already confirmed its starters won't suit up for this contest.
However, that just opens up a massive opportunity for those who aren't as safe on this roster to make an impression. Here are several Bears who are playing to either keep or take someone else's job in the Hall of Fame Game:
1. Tyson Bagent, QB
Chicago has elected to keep No. 1 overall pick Caleb Williams from taking the field against Houston, and instead Matt Eberflus has tapped Tyson Bagent to start on Thursday, giving the latter his first chance to cement his status as QB2.
Bagent helped lead the Bears to some overall success as a rookie, recording two wins across four starts. However, he personally didn't shine, throwing for only 776 yards during this stretch while tossing more interceptions (5) than touchdowns (3).
One early preseason game isn't going to knock Bagent off from the No. 2 spot, but it could open the door for the Bears to consider someone else if he does struggle.
After all, Bagent will likely mostly be playing the Texans' backups, so it'd be strange if he doesn't excel. Otherwise, how could Chicago trust him to be called upon when things really matter in the regular season?
For Bagent's sake, hopefully he can quiet some of the doubters with a strong showing in Canton.
